Milena Liutkutė-Grigaitienė’s Exhibition “Quarantinarium” at Galera Gallery
Currently residing at the UĹľupis Art Incubator, Milena LiutkutÄ—-GrigaitienÄ— is unveiling her first solo exhibition, “Quarantinarium” at the nearby Galera Gallery. The opening will take place on October 22 at 6:30 PM.
Drawing upon her empathetic response to the tense situation, Milena’s art, featuring compositions of masks that converge into a heart shape, invites viewers to “love the present moment and reconcile with the current situation.” Although Milena has been engaged in professional graphic arts for decades, this marks her debut solo exhibition. “The exhibition is as spontaneous as the pandemic itself. For a perfectionist, it’s hard to open an imperfect exhibition, but motherhood changed that, and the pandemic inspired me,” Milena shares.
Art historian AustÄ—ja MikuckytÄ—-MateikienÄ— notes that “The use of models resembling ancient sculptures seems to suggest that humanity has faced crises throughout history. It’s crucial not to lose civilization and common sense.”
While Milena takes the pandemic seriously, hope and playfulness inhabit the artworks on display. “The petals of a daisy are being torn apart, wondering ‘Will it infect or not?’ Disinfectants keep drying out the skin. It feels like we’ll soon see the bones of the hand,” she says. “In this series, I also emphasize the mask as a tool that protects not only from scents but sadly from proximity.”
The exhibition will run until November 7, 7 PM.
